LCAD/FTAW Professional Student/Gallery Mentoring Program

One of the nation’s top colleges of art and design, Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) and First Thursdays Art Walk (FTAW) announced that 14 students from the BFA in Fine Arts major will exhibit their artworks in select Laguna Beach art galleries as part of LCAD’s Professional Mentoring Program, an annual collaboration between LCAD and participating Laguna Beach First Thursdays Art Walk galleries.

LCAD’s Professional Mentoring Program pairs fine arts majors with member galleries of First Thursdays Art Walk. Representatives from the galleries guide students through the fundamentals of exhibiting their work in the professional area and educate them about the business side of operating a gallery. With the exception of juried student exhibitions through LCAD’s satellite galleries, LCAD campus and the LCAD Gallery, many students have never exhibited their work professionally. Proceeds from the sale of student art will not only go to student artists but a portion is designated for scholarships.

This year’s students are:  Alexandra Wagg (La Bottega Delle’Acquaforte), Natalie Terenzini (The Redfern Gallery), Angelica Spears (saltfineart), Jackie Inzunza (Cove Gallery), Bailey Sack (DeRu’s Fine Art), Donna Walling (Artist Eye Gallery), Cristina Matadama (Cast of Crowns Art Collective), Tristan Abel (Kelsey Michaels Fine Art), Wendy Gracia (The Signature Gallery), Ani Dylan (Quorum Gallery), Dan Nguyen (Avran Fine Art), Charlie Antolin (Dawson Cole Fine Art), Michael Munroe (Tumbleweed Art), Sureya Davis (Whitney Gallery).  Printable map here.

Attend Opening Night on December 7, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm and help a developing artist take their first steps into the professional art world by purchasing their work in participating galleries.  50% of the proceeds go directly to the student and 50% to the First Thursdays Art Walk/LCAD Scholarship fund.

If you can’t attend, consider supporting First Thursdays Art Walk/LCAD Scholarship Fund. 100% of your contribution goes directly into the scholarship fund.

484 North Gallery

World renowned Playboy bodypainter and photographer presents his fine art side in the new gallery showing at 484 North Gallery. In three different rooms and three very different styles of painting, Mark shows his diversity with mastery of watercolors, acrylic abstracts and large scale Icon paintings. All are so very different from the relasitic bodypainting he performed for Hugh Hefner in his magazine and at the outrageous mansion parties for the last few decades.

There will be live music and guests will have the opportunity meet the artist.

California Mexicana: Missions to Murals, 1820–1930

Artistic and cultural exchange between California and Mexico has flourished since the time when California was part of the United States of Mexico. The exhibition highlights this vital aspect of the state’s history through a panorama of works by artists on both sides of the border, from scenes of mission and rancho life through images of romantic Old California, to the emergence of a cross-border modern art scene. California Mexicana is part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, a far-reaching and ambitious exploration of Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles. On view through January 14, 2018.

Avran Fine Art

Avran Fine Art welcomes LCAD student Dan Nguyen as part of the 16th Annual Gallery/Student Professional Mentoring Program, a collaboration with First Thursdays Art Walk and Laguna College of Art + Design

About Dan Nguyen:

“My art takes inspiration from the current outdoor music festivals that I have attended. Going to these festivals is my way to decompress and get away from the busy and stressful everyday life. Here, I have a chance to connect, dance and celebrate life together with people at many ages from all over the world. In my body of work, I emphasize the beauty of nature and peoples’ freedom to express themselves through the way they dress and act. I focus on capturing the feeling and emotion of each figure through body language and facial expression. Using a lot of vibrant and pastel colors, my work carries a whimsical and romantic feel with a sense of escaping to a magical world.”

Cove Gallery

Cove Gallery Laguna is pleased to showcase artist

Jacqueline Inzunza  – LCAD Student Mentor Program Artist for the month of December 2017

Artist Statement:

I am an expressionist painter. When painting, my heart takes over my hand controlling, my brush marks, and the use of color to portray mood. I gravitate towards the red and violet hues; they have a way of calming my soul and exciting it. My art is a mix of subject matters—things that resonate with me on an emotional level. It brings me satisfaction when the viewers senses the emotions left behind.

Come meet Jaquenline in person at the December Laguna First Thursday Art Walk Reception on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6 – 9 pm in the Cove Gallery.

The New Cove Gallery is directly across PCH from the front entrance to the Surf & Sand Resort at 1550 South Coast Highway, and next door to Vertigo Home, in the historic Granada Building.
