Helen Lundeberg: A Retrospective

Laguna Art Museum is proud to be organizing the first comprehensive exhibition of the work of a key figure in twentieth-century California art, Helen Lundeberg (1908-1999).

Frederick Hammersley: Works on Paper from the Permanent Collection

The museum’s collection is rich in drawings and prints by the renowned Los Angeles modernist Frederick Hammersley (1919-2009). This is largely thanks to the donation of thirty-eight of his works on paper by the Frederick Hammersley Foundation in 2014. The works range from casual studies from life to carefully composed abstractions. Hammersley was part of the same artistic circle as Helen Lundeberg, and the museum’s large-scale retrospective of Lundeberg’s work provides an opportune moment to show for the first time the bulk of its Hammersley holdings.

The exhibition will be shown on the museum’s upper level. Support for the exhibition was generously provided by the Frederick Hammersley Foundation.

City Life, Los Angeles: 1930s to 1950s

Beginning in the 1930s, many American artists turned their attention to scenes of everyday life, which they rendered in a realistic style. Often their paintings celebrated the development of the modern city and its hustle-bustle of activity. This exhibition focuses on urban scenes by the group of artists—most members of the California Water Color Society—who were the leading proponents of “American Scene” painting in California.

New Works by Colombian-American Painter America Martin February 4th, 2016 – April 15th, 2016

Artist Reception: February 4th, 2016 from 6-8pm to coincide with First Thursdays Art Walk.

Please RSVP: 949.510.5481 by January 30th, 2016

“As I went walking I saw a sign there…and on the sign it said “No Trespassing”…But on the other side it didn’t say nothing…That side was made for you and me,” Woody Guthrie.

See the signs or, rather, signposts in America Martin’s new works emboldened by the unexpected…the dangerous…the pleasurable. Paper collages direct you to the open highway in Vroom…America speaks: “Feel only the boxing wind”…Oil and acrylic provide sensual delight in Red Woman…Blue Woman…Red, White or Blue… Each expression and impression tells us something about ourselves textually, visually, and artistically…Open road…Open America…

Please join us as we celebrate Colombian American Painter America Martin showcasing new works in both; oils and acrylics as well as mixed materials. America’s artistry in motion and content spills over her canvases. Visually stimulating and emotionally penetrating, America delivers her most powerful works to date.

America Martin’s work will inspire, provoke, engage and mesmerize. With visual perceptions always changing, peek behind the stories told and you’re sure to find the right artistic expression!

Avran Art + Design

Steve Perrault Solo Exhibition at Avran Art + Design

Personal Passages

Avran Art + Design is pleased to present a solo exhibition of artworks by critically acclaimed artist, Steve Perrault, on Saturday, February 13th from 6-9 PM.

“Steve Perrault’s acrylic landscape paintings are a distinct aesthetic in contemporary metaphoric realism, and speaks the language of our times. Architectural metaphors of light and darkness, containment and expansion, inside and outside, promote a sense of place and hope, while asking questions concerning passages, boundaries and vision. These acrylic paintings express harmonious environments of modesty, honesty, order and calm, allow spontaneous insights and moments of introspection.”

Avran Art + Design distinguishes itself among the vibrant art scene in Laguna Beach by offering its clients a unique perspective on contemporary art for collectors and enthusiasts. The exquisitely edited gallery exhibits museum-quality glass sculptures, original paintings, avant-garde photography, and distinctive jewelry.
